While driving along the Guwahati- Shillong Highway...

Here are some of the things we noticed, realized or missed. It was a Sunday morning with very little traffic on the otherwise busy highway. The 'beginning of December' weather, was ideal for some sort of an inner journey. For the record, it was dusty as hell too.

Dumpers being loaded with tonnes of earth on slopes with physics defying angles!
Things we noticed on the Guwahati- Shillong Highway

# IL&FS Transportation (according to all the neat diversion signs) has a big job to pull off. They seem to be doing okay. Hey people at IL&FS Transportation, if those are your men working on building on the roads, we must say we love your safety standards, going by the way your men are dressed and geared. Kudos!

# There are numerous industries that use this arterial road to ferry materials and finished goods and the expansion of this transport corridor is going to do the entire North East a er, truck load of good.

# As the road expansion completes, a lot of small car traffic from Guwahati, carrying families inside them are going to create a sort of retail, f&b, entertainment and day-out hub. This should start happening from 2015 and developments could start as close as just 6 KMs from Khanapara. Cheap land, great connectivity and rock bottom rentals shall make this a reality.

# Meghalaya cops are probably the smartest looking police force in India. Riding their white Bajaj Pulsars with a flair for cornering them along the twisted mountain roads, they make a very cool sight!

Signs such as this one and others tell you that a lot of work is in progress
Things we realized on the Guwahati- Shillong Highway

#  Land prices along the corridor are going to increase pretty soon. The increase in land price wave, if drawn would be like 2 tidal waves, originating from Guwahati and Shillong and meeting somewhere in between.

# Driving a massive MAN Truck (with articulated steering please) along these banked mountain roads is a far more exciting, satisfying and rewarding job than building or selling real estate, SEZs included!

# The village kids living along the Guwahati- Shillong highway have the coolest toys in the world. We saw bunches of kids every kilometre or so, exploring, climbing and feeling massive loaders, excavators and other heavy duty equipment. Man those are blessed kids. We feel sorry for our PS2 playing kids at home.

# People living along this scenic highway have never really logged on to Indian Real Estate for Dummies and they probably never will. We are jealous of every one of them.

# The Maruti Alto deserves to be the highest selling car in India. [This topic is sticky & closed]

The Sunday afternoon GS Road drive is easy, scenic and adrenaline inducing
People/ Things we missed on the Guwahati- Shillong Highway

# A USB drive on our client issued Maruti Alto's music system. Imagine what some Mark Knopfler and Emmy Lou Harris could have done to the whole experience.

# A dead pedal. The guy who thought up the dead pedal thingy needs a big hug.

# A North Indian style highway dhaba, serving greasy paranthas and butter chicken to start with. We think, such a culinary destination would come up soon enough. A simple answer to demand.

# Public Conveniences along the highway. As more and more folks drive up and down these roads, a clean restroom would be such a welcome sight, especially for the women.

# Sachin Rao, Kurt Cobain, a Ray Ban and a V-8 under the hood were also missed during the drive.

Cheers!
