The Comet Song
“This is exciting because it is completely new to us,” says Karl-Heinz Glaßmeier, head of Space Physics and Space Sensorics at Germany’s Technische Universität Braunschweig. “We did not expect this and we are still working to understand the physics of what is happening.”
During a series of tests, ESA scientists tuned their instrument to between 40 and 50 millihertz, and it’s there that the comet actually began to 'sing'. - the noise may be the result of oscillations created by the “the ionisation of neutral particles from the comet’s jets. They collide with high-energy particles from interplanetary space and become ionised. Because it is electrically charged, the plasma then interacts with the cometary magnetic field, causing oscillations.”
So here is what Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko sounds like. Courtesy - Satellite Rosetta.

NASA Space Sounds - Information about the recordings and sample sounds of the planets, moons and rings of planets in our Solar System. Please Note: both Song of Earth and Voice of Earth are man made compositions of the original Earth recordings. Uranus Rings sound really awesome!
