My Rough Notes to Write a Serious, Heart Melting Republic Day Post.

History never registered much with me. And with all the time that has passed by, I needed a recap on this whole Republic Day thing, find some leads, follow them through and create a serious blog post that makes the readers think. Yeah.

Republic Day (Wikipedia) - Republic Day (Hindi: गणतंत्र दिवस) honours the date on which the Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950 replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India.

The Constitution was passed by the Constituent Assembly of India on 26 November 1949 but was adopted on 26 January 1950 with a democratic government system, completing the country's transition toward becoming an independent republic. 

26 January was selected for this purpose because it was this day in 1930 when the Declaration of Indian Independence (Purna Swaraj) was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress.

Oh darn. So there was no revolution or great event or anything else on 26th January. It was a chosen date to release a finalised, printed document enforce the Constitution of India, three years after Independence Day. That would only get ROFL from the readers.

So we are celebrating the enforcement of a document. Okay. What other great documents have we enforced? Anti Smoking. Anti Corruption, Anti Child Labour, Anti Women's Oppression, Freedom of Speech. Anti money laundering. Have they been effective? Ba**s! More ROFL. So what do I really tell our readers. We have to add value. 

The word Republic could throw up something amazing. Try that. 

Republic (Wikipedia) - A republic is a form of government in which power resides in the people. 

Are you effing serious? That would get ROTFL. 

Spotlight now on the great Delhi Republic Day event. The whole country watches that one.

*flicked the remote and turned on News*

TV Anchor: Why are you here at Delhi's Janpath Today?

Man: To see all the cool tanks and weapons! (Wow. A celebration of human rights and freedom by showcasing weapons of mass destruction? It is a limp biscuit. Won't make it till the mouth. And we can have an armed forces and weapons manufacturers day, no? ROFL)

Boy: Am going to see the motorcycles and human formations on them. (Can't write about that either. Our readers would certainly bring up the Chris Pfeiffer example in their heads if I uttered the motorcycle word here. Plus India Bike Week is next month anyway. ROFL again.)

Others: Obama and the PM's address- No big deal. Happens all the time. The whole media is abuzz with those two names anyway.

(Also heard a Delhi resident on the News saying that they have practically shut Delhi down for the American President today and people at homes could be dying as critical medical care cannot reach them in many areas. Did Washington have even one less cab plying when Narendra Modi was there lately? Nope. Bad Angle.)

Hoisting the flag? I dunno. All those Manchester United and their clans' stores selling team flags and bumper stickers are far more in vogue with our readers than the tri colour. I mean they don't even have an Incredible India souvenir store selling classy stuff in a swanky mall. ROFL. That won't cut it either. :(

Ummm, anything I can think of somehow finds its way to ROFL, just like all roads lead to another R word. Guess I will just leave the readers a little message saying Happy Republic Day. And while I am at it, will try and add a little humor. And that thought makes me go ROFL this time. 

And you thought writing was easy. ;)
