Looking for an apartment in Upmarket South Kolkata. A strange dilemma!
A friend called the other day and we were chatting up. He has a little money saved up and wants to take a home loan and stretch his house buying budget to INR 65 to 70 lacs. A decent budget we would agree. He has been living in Kolkata's upmarket Ballygunge area all his life and wants to pick up something there.
Weeks of research revealed to him the reality. Even with that budget, there is no option in the vicinity of Ballygunge. He said he was looking at something in Moore Avenue near the Tollygunge Metro station now, as that was the only area that he could afford. Woh!
Reality check. If you have a budget of INR 65 to 70 lacs, and want to live it up in upmarket Kolkata, perish the thought. At that budget, New Town, East Kolkata and Extreme South Kolkata would only fit the bill.
So if a bloke like me has a INR 1 lac salary (the taxes take away quite a bit) and can afford a 50 lac home loan, I am banished from the comforts of upmarket Kolkata living. We wonder who is living there then.
Anybody got any leads?
[Confused]
