Buying a new home? Listen to that intangible 'gut feeling'.

Investments are directly proportional to the money you have lying around. Something that you can spare. Those investments could be looked at from a practical and informed stand point. Almost mathematical. But when it comes to buying a home to live in, just figures and specs are not enough.
Let us understand a particular word before we start and finish this. 'Intangible'.
in·tan·gi·ble
/inˈtanjəbəl/
Adjective
Unable to be touched or grasped; not having physical presence:
Noun
An intangible thing.
Synonyms
impalpable - untouchable

So you have shortlisted a few properties, seen the houses a couple of times with the missus and the mom in law and have even taken a look at the legal papers and the terms and conditions of the sale. We assume that you have covered all the technical things that lead up to a clean real estate transaction. You are at a point when you have to really make up your mind and reply in a yes or a no. Now try this to reach a happy conclusion....
#1. Get yourself into the home or the project site one last time before you sign that booking cheque and confirm the purchase.
#2. Walk around the site and feel the place. Will you look forward to seeing what you see for a reasonable amount of time in the future? The reality around could be varied. Only you can feel what you do. You will get an answer.
#3. Do you think your spouse will really like living here? Close your eyes and see her standing there. Is she really happy? Is she beaming with pride at the new address? Does she feel satisfied, after all those sacrifices both of you have made to get there? You will get an answer.
#4. Are your friends going to love your new place? Will they have a great feeling coming there? Would love, laughter and happiness always dwell at your new home? You will get an answer.
#5. Will your daughter or son run around and grow up to be a nicer person here than she or he would at the place you currently live in? You will get an answer.
#6. Lastly, are you happy? Is this what you really wanted? Are you compromising too much? Is the weight of that EMI going to crush you? You will, get an answer, dost. :)
The answer to these questions is an intangible one. You could call it gut feel. Or premonition. Intuition even. But the human mind's beauty lies in the assessment of a situation. Our internal assessments are mostly true. Just that most of the times, we choose not to follow the intangible. But that does not change the truth. The intangible, is a powerful thing. It goes way beyond what you can see, touch and express.
If the answer to all the questions above is a resounding and happy yes, write out that cheque and call us for the house warming party. If those answers are no, just wait. Do not feel compelled to take a decision unless the intangible forces are reconciled with. It is easier said than done, we know. But you live only once and there are other things to be done than just buying a new home. Focus on them instead. And remember, we at Indian Real Estate for Dummies, whispered the existence of the intangible in your ear.
Cheers!
